I caught and have still got 2 Black Ant Queens this summer. How many did you get? Of course, I could have picked up hundreds.

I picked up quite a few and in the end kept about 4. Tho in the end none of them ended up laying eggs.

This was actually my first time catching queens lol so there was proberly a number of thing i was doing wrong. I didnt have enough containers at the time so maybe they didnt feel comfortable laying next to each other lol, and i dont think i put enough ground into the containers for them to dig into.

Also, i used a sand/loam mix for the ground so maybe they didnt like it? maybe i would have had better results from a soil ground.

In the end all but one died, and i let the last one go. But as long as i learn from these mistakes

omg im stil trying to find one lol i am hoping to find about 3-5 lasius niger queen and hopfully some lasius flavus have you ever been to macro i would keep them in the big hariabo boxs i would fill about a half full of local soil and let grow then sell them to my friends or on internet when they got a decent size

Have they even had a chance to fly yet this year? Damn british weather!

Me too, I bought 20 test tubes with lids from antstore.net so that I could get put a queen in each. Just put some sugar water in one end (about and inch depth) then stop that end with a cotton wool bung nicely compacted so it doesnt leak (letting just enough through to feed the queen), then catch the queen pop her into the tube, put the lid on with a pinhole in the top (air) and put in a nice dark warm place for a month or two...hopefully that will do the job.
