Well, today, I got a little bit bored of waiting for the MR's to move into the main farm area...you can call me impatient if you like...I was. So I proceeded to hurry them along abit. Taking the test tube that the MR's were living in I opened the top of the farm and shook the whole lot out. Now, this is not for the faint hearted, cos a whole load of angry MR's running towards your fingers is abit scary (anyone who's been bitten by a M. Ruginodis will know). There were of course some MR's left in the basin area, and they had very kindly dug themselves a nice little area under the water basin. Well, this was a case of one by one picking up the individuals with tweazers, and placing them in the main farm area. It was a success, all of the ants, workers, queen, and eggs are now safely at home in the main farm area. The main nursery has been created down the sides of the farm, which unfortunately are behind the aluminium edging, so can't be seen. However, I know that tunnels will soon start to appear when the colony grows. The queen has also dissappeared down one side. The basin area is now looking a lot better as I was able to rearrange it and introduce a slightly better water container. On the whole the MR's are a very interesting ant, although at the moment they are quite lethargic, so we will see what happens. |
