Messor Barbarus - Harvester Ants
Well, the messor barbarus have been up and about for a few weeks now. As you may have read, they moved en-mass into the small basin, out of the plaster nest that I painstakingly created for them...ho hum never mind, I can use that for something else now I suppose, tho I will have to replace the glass cos it broke when I took it all apart to clean it. I have been feeding them honey, and spraying the are daily to keep it reasonably moist. They just love the honey. I put it onto the cotton wool, and it obviously seeps into it, thereby flavouring the water at the same time. They are on it daily drinking up its goodness, in fact one day I even saw the queen on it! Shes back in the nest now, and to be honest I can't see a darn thing that they are doing, I suppose they like it that way.
Tetramorium Caespitum - Pavement ants
These gals have gone into hibernation for the most part. It may be that the room they are in now is a bit cooler than the living room where I had them before. There are still workers mooching about in the small basin area, foraging. It could be that their food stores are completely full, Im just not sure. Anyway, I keep that basin moist with a daily spray. I have noticed that they have been tunnelling in this area as well, as is there way. They certainly are very active in their tunnel building.
Camponatus Ligniperda - Carpenter Ants
Lazy buggers! Thats all I can say about them, cos they still havn't moved out of the tubing area. I havn't seen them foraging at all. I spray the inside of the opening to the tubing frequently just to ensure there is water there if they want it. I may well move these ants into a large basin with some dead wood in it to see if this gets them going more active.

Messor Barbarus - Harvester Ants
At long last, it seems that the Messor Barbarus have awoken from their hibernation. The first thing that they did was to move out of the plaster nest, and into the basin area. They have also got a rather large hole to come and go from. I was a bit concerned at first because the plaster nest was completely empty, with one dead worker in the middle of it  . So I took the lid off the basin area to check inside, and thats when I noticed the movement of the workers. I moistened the area for them as it looked a bit dry, and I noticed the Queen move into the tubing linking the two. She soon moved back into the basin though, and my worries were over. I have to say though, I,m not really sure what Im gonna do now, if they moved out of the plaster nest into the basin, they obviously prefer it...time will tell.
Tetramorium Caespitum - Pavement Ants
These gals are still hibernating, but there are a huge number of them, so the queen has been doing a good job. Lets just hope they have enough in their food stores to keep them going for as long as they rest up.
Camponotus Ligniperda - Carpenter Ants
Still no sign of action with these gals. They just sit in the tube, and do not very much at all...lol I think its still a bit cool for them at the moment.
