I just love Red Ants. I have been fascinated by them for the last 25 years. Even keeping them on and off over the years. Now I have a colony of nearly 80 from the original 50 that I bought back in July. Do you like Red Ants?

i like myrmica rubra they are very cool but have not had any experience with myrmica ruginodis are they very active?

Yes, they are very active. This is the species I used to keep when I was a kid, in jam jars filled with earth. I didn't know it back then, but they have numerous queens per nest, so taking one queen and a few workers leaves the original nest able to cope with the loss and gives you the chance of creating a whole new colony...

I don't know the max amount, but I once dug up a good sized nest and picked out every single individual ant including the queens to put into my jars. From memory there were over a dozen...
