My experience with Lasius Niger. 2008/03/21 16:43 Karma: 0
I had my first ant farm and colony as a present about a year ago. The colony died and i was gutted but at the time i didnt have the money to buy a new one and the supplies i wanted/needed.

But now all things are back on track and i have a steady wage coming in im ready to jump back into the world of ants lol.

I think pretty much everything went wrong with my original colony. But in the end they all died off after the queen died. I dont know how she died but after checking on them as usual i noticed there was absolutely no activity in the nest. When i brought it out to have a closer look she, and most the colony, were just dead in the tube. And there were about 5 workers just aimlessly walking around outside the nest, which was strange behavior that i had noticed a few days before. The colony never left the test tube and i had them for a good number of months.

Also i completly messed up the ant farm i had connected to the basin. I had trouble trying to keep it moist and although the people over at the antfarm forums were very helpful they didnt speak much english lol and no one really gave me complete answers.

But no i am looking to start again and i think im going to go back to basics. I am considering getting a pre-built cork nest and another Lasius N. colony. I dont think much can go wrong with a set up like that and while they are in there im going to start working on a nest/basin set up then hopefully get a colony of red ants for it. And then move up from there.

Im just hoping everything works out well this time lol.
